How many have you read?

How many of the top 100 books ever written (as determined by the BBC) have you read? The list is pretty inspiring. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I've read more of them than I thought. Does seeing the movie count? (i.e., The Princess Diaries--seen a dozen times with my 3 girls, or Dicken's A Christmas Carol, Treasure Island--just watched it last week with my youngest, The Thorn Birds--remember that?, or Gone with the Wind?) Probably not, but I may have to skip them anyway to get through this list. What about Shakespeare? Apparently his writings don't count as they are plays, not novels. Hmmm. If that weren't the case, his plays would dominate the list I guess and be unfair to the others.

The Lord of the Rings (actually 3 books) was ranked number 1 in Britain. I have to agree but only if The Hobbit is included--how sweet is that book?!? It looks like I have my reading list laid out for me for the next year (or two). I wonder if I can get through the rest of them by the end of 2010 (along with all of the other books I'm reading or listening to in my car or ipod)? I think it will be fun trying! Not much beats coming home to the smell of baking bread--and chocolate chip pumpkin bread is mouth watering! Here’s a family and friend favorite recipe.  Wrap it up in foil or wax paper and add one of Wooster & Prince's decorative labels to the top with your name on it and Voila! The perfect hostess or thank you gift!

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bread

3 cups white sugar
1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
1 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup water
4 eggs
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

In a large bowl, combine sugar, pumpkin, oil, water, and eggs. Beat until smooth. Blend in flour, spices, soda, and salt. Fold in chocolate chips. Grease and flour three loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until knife inserted comes out clean. Cool on wire racks before removing from pans.  Freezes well too!
